OUR INSPIRATION

The Bean-to-Bar chocolate brands we sell in our webshop represent chocolate makers who inspire us along the way. We are happy to introduce our current suppliers to you:

  • Factory in Antwerp (Belgium)
  • Making chocolate since 2016
  • Founded by Isabelle and Tom and taken over by Caroline in 2022
  • Cacao beans are grown in 3 different locations in Colombia in agroforestry systems in harmony with nature
  • Local Colombian partner buys the beans directly from the farmers for a fair price
  • Roasting of the beans happens in Colombia
  • Cacao nibs are shipped by cargo sail ship to Amsterdam and then sailed to Antwerp by small yacht
  • Factory in Altea (Alicante, Spain)
  • Making chocolate since 2019
  • Founded by Nerijus and Giedrė who moved with their 3 children from Lithuania to the South of Spain looking for the sun
  • They didn’t like their children consuming so much refined sugar and decided to start to manufacture healthier chocolate themselves
  • Their chocolate doesn’t contain refined sugar, but is sweetened with dates.
  • Their inclusions are only natural ingredients such as fresh orange peel, sticks of Ceylon cinnamon, mint leaves…
  • Factory in Ghent (Belgium)
  • Making chocolate since 2021
  • Founded by the Belgian-Italian couple Ellen and Luca who moved to Kerala (India) in 2015 to study and perfect the cacao harvest, fermentation and drying process
  • Until today, they are running GoGround Beans & Spices, a centralised cacao fermentary ensuring a stable and direct income for more than 200 small-scale cacao farmers, resulting in farmer-fair chocolate
  • Ellen and Luca know the farmer families and established trusting relationships in the local Indian community
  • Their chocolate bars have subtle taste differences based upon the seasonality of fine cacao (try out the “monsoon” and “dry” chocolate bars yourself!)
  • Factory in Albelda de Iregua (La Rioja, Spain)
  • Making chocolate since 1990
  • Founded by pastry chef Juan Ángel Rodrigálvarez
  • Kankel has a close relationship with cacao farmers around the world and buys the beans directly from them for a fair price
  • By visiting the plantations, they are aware of the natural environment, the daily work and the quality of the cacao beans
  • With the diverse flavours of their chocolate, they want to bring a piece of each land where the cacao comes from
  • Factory in Palma de Mallorca (Spain)
  • Making chocolate since 2020
  • Founded by Silvia who was born in Nicaragua and grew up with cacao, and the Mallorcan agronomist Jaume who became an expert in cacao after living in Nicaragua and advising farms throughout Latin America
  • As the first Bean-to-Bar chocolate makers in Mallorca, they want to promote conscious consumption of healthy food within the island’s tourism
  • They like to combine Mallorcan ingredients such as oranges from the town Sóller, with their chocolate
  • Factory in Tervuren (Belgium)
  • Making chocolate since 2016
  • Founded by Caroline and Nicolas
  • A visit to a cacao plantation during a trip to Mexico inspired them to make their own chocolate and start up their family business
  • Their goal is to bring the taste of chocolate back to its basics: the natural taste of the cacao beans
  • Factory in Anderlecht (Brussels, Belgium)
  • Making chocolate since 2016
  • Founded by the Russian-German couple Julia ‘Mike’ Mikerova & Björn ‘Becky’ Becker
  • They started their adventure with a Bean-to-Bar chocolate webshop, just like us, trying to convince their friends to look beyond the traditional Belgian chocolate
  • Mike & Becky is a transparent company, showing the chocolate making process to their customers or sharing their knowledge with anyone who asks
  • Today they are collaborating with other artisanal food and beverage businesses in Brussels with the same sustainability values, experimenting with flavouring and pairing their chocolate bars with coffee, nuts, cheese, Belgian beer…
